I grew up in Puerto Rico, most specifically in the Southwest. My mom and I would wait by a tree not too far from our home for a public taxi. This was usually elderly men from the town who would drive almost daily, but only short distances. Most people drive in Puerto Rico since transportation is limited in this part of the island. These retired men stopped driving as the years went by due to sickness and death. There is a need for some sort of consistent transportation system in this part of the island. Uber does not operate in the south west, it is mostly available in major cities such as Ponce and San Juan. A car rental is often a choice due to limited means for travel. San Juan has many more transportation options, such as its train system (Tren Urbano), public buses, and taxis. This is a need that perhaps the right business-oriented person could take an interest in and solve. I suppose only time will tell.
