It was a late summer afternoon in 2012 when I returned home from a long day at school. I was hungry and tired and was hoping I had snacks at home. I got off the bus and walked home. The afternoon was humid, and I was too exhausted from studying to stop by the grocery store. I went to my apartment only to find a USPS box by my door. I read the label, and it was from my Dad, Mi Papi. I quickly got inside and washed my hands. I could not find anything sharp to open the box since Dad had used so much tape. I finally found a pair of sharp scissors and to my surprise! Mi Papi had packaged quenepas with the branches and leaves straight from our tree in Puerto Rico. This quenepa tree was planted by my grandparents and it is a reminder of our family tree so to speak. I was so happy and amused at the same time. It was the perfect afternoon snack!
